Isiolo Governor, KDF collaborate to provide flood relief to affected residents

The county is among those that have been severely affected by floods.

Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo and the Kenya Defence Forces will distribute food and non-food items to residents affected by floods, in the county.

In the collaboration, KDF will provide airlifting services to areas that are not accessible by road, over the next three days.

The essential items distribution will see at least 626 households in Bassa, 500 in Sericho, 635 in Erasaboru and 75 in Gubatu wards benefit from the food distribution exercise.

Each of the households will receive 6kg of maize flour, 6kg of rice, and cooking oil.

Isiolo Chief Officer, Special program Hassan Abdulah Dawah has assured the residents that the County government has developed a contingency plan that is aimed at supporting over 12,000 households in the county.

Abdulah said during the exercise, the county will give special attention to affected areas in Erasaboru and Bassa wards, where entire villages have been marooned by floods.

He noted that residents of these areas are in urgent need of food supply.

Public Health Chief Officer Bisharo Hassan, said the county has also dispatched drugs, Mosquito nets and other items to cushion families affected by floods.

"The Office of Special program reaffirms its commitment to address flood-related cases to cushion hundreds of families affected in the area.

"We'll keep on updating the good residents of Isiolo County on the happenings as far as floods are concerned and we will act to save lives," Bisharo said.

On November 17, Guyo flagged off the distribution of foodstuff to across 10 wards.

"The rains are here and despite being blessings, some households have been affected and the items here today will help cushion the situation," he said.

The flagging off took place at the Isiolo police mess where the Governor was accompanied by his Deputy James Lowasa and county assembly speaker Mohamed Roba Qoto.
