The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has summoned Mumias East MP Peter Salasya to its offices in Nairobi on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

"You are required to appear at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission’s offices at Integrity Centre, Nairobi, on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 9 am for an interview and statement recording," a letter addressed to Salasya reads in part.

In the letter dated January 16, EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak notified him that there would be two officers available to receive and record the said statement.

He said the summon is meant to address the allegations that the MP assaulted Malaha/Isongo Ward MCA Peter Walunya during a funeral on January 12.

The CEO noted that the allegations constitute serious ethical issues, saying if the same are true, they would amount to a serious breach of the integrity and ethical requirements governing the conduct of State Officers.

This is according to Chapter Six of the Constitution and, the Leadership and Integrity Act, 2012.

Mbarak said the Commission has already launched investigations into the matter to help take the appropriate action as per its mandate.

In the same case, Salasya presented himself to Mumias Law Courts on Wednesday after a court order.

He appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Marcella Onyango to take a plea for assault and grievous bodily harm charges.

He denied the charges and was released on a Sh50,000 bond.

The case will be mentioned on February 19 and heard on March 12.
