Fraud case stalls as Sh100,000 cash bail goes missing

A case in which city businessman Ronald Reagan Ouma is alleged to have defrauded eggs worth Sh2.5 million from a private company may stall after the court learnt that the cash bail of Sh 100,000 that he paid after his arrest cannot be traced for some time now.

The court heard that after the businessman was arrested by the officers stationed at Capitol Hill police station.

After the arrest, he was granted a cash bail of Sh 100, 000 which is yet to be accounted for.

“It is hereby ordered the police be given one last chance to avail the accused person’s police cash bail by February 8, 2024. If the same will not have been availed, the prosecution will be expected to withdraw the matter to enable it to put its house in order,” ruled Kibera Chief Magistrate Ann Mwangi.

The prosecution told the court that they would follow up on the matter.

According to the court papers, the suspect who was present in court when the matter was mentioned allegedly defrauded Hall Mark Retail and Management Limited eggs worth Sh 2, 521,000.

He is said to have pretended that he was in a position to pay them after delivery a fact he knew was false.

The prosecution has so far enlisted witnesses including the detectives from Capitol Hill Police Station if the matter will proceed for a plea once the missing cash bail is availed next month.
