KAM launches business growth program to boost local enterprises

Kenya Association of Manufacturers has launched the 2024 Business growth program to boost local Small and Medium Enterprises.

KAM partnered with Unilever to assist boost SMEs performance locally and expand regionally and internationally.

The launch was attended by Unilever and other business and commerce strategists.

“SMEs are undeniably key drivers of global economic development in emerging markets, most formal jobs are generated by SMEs who create seven out of 10 jobs,” KAM board director Ciiru Waweru said.

However, it was noted that SMEs often struggle to enter new markets and expand their customer base and the program will aim at improving their marketing strategies.

Some of the key initiatives of the program are market expansion by creating plans for new markets and successful marketing, fostering network and collaboration which the program will create platforms for SMEs to share ideas and experiences for strategic alliances, and technology advancements for digital marketing for the SMEs which was termed as the most crucial for success of SMEs.

“Embracing technology is crucial for SMEs to remain competitive. The program shall offer guidance on leveraging technology solutions such as digital marketing, e-commerce platforms, cloud computing and automation to streamline operations, improve efficiency and drive innovation,” KAM head of consulting and business development Joyce Njogu said.

KAM’s Manufacturing 2030 Strategy aims at prioritizing the SMEs by boosting the business sector contribution by 20 per cent and creating 1,000,000 jobs.

“SMEs play a vital role in the manufacturing sector by delivering innovative solutions tailored to diverse needs. The Business Growth Program is specifically designed to tackle the challenges faced by SMEs,” the KAM board director added.

"It provides essential tools and resources along with networking opportunities to foster business growth."

Unilever Supplier Program Diversity Lead Rasoa Nekesa said they have developed the program for five years for enhancement of localisation as the biggest challenge was the local SMEs lacking enough capability to support the big corporates.
