One person was on Friday arrested in connection with the Thursday night fire incident that has so far left three people dead and nearly 300 injured.

The arrested man is a security guard at the station.

The guard was apprehended by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Police said the search for more suspects is ongoing.

Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Douglas Kanja said they have told the DCI to conclude the probe soonest possible and take action on those behind it.

“Within 14 days they should be giving us a report,” he said.

Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura told the press on Friday when he made a tour of the scene that they are seeking to unravel its cause.

He maintained that the owners of the facility must take full responsibility including compensating the victims.

"There is no denial that if at all EPRA denied them the licence, then the owners may have allegedly corrupted their way...so, they also need to come on board," he stated.

Mwaura further warned that those who may have "slept on the job" will be held responsible.

It also emerged that the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage and filling plant had no approvals to conduct business.

Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) said all applications by the firm were rejected as they did not meet the set criteria for an LPG storage and filling plant in that area.

EPRA noted that it received the applications on March 19, 2023, June 20 2023 and July 31, 2023.
