Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga on Sunday led a drive to push Nairobi residents to register as members of his party.

The opposition leader, who was accompanied by top ODM officials, unveiled the membership registration exercise at Nairobi's Kamkunji grounds.

Nairobi is Raila's 15 stop over since he launched the aggressive exercise aimed at netting more ODM members across the country.

Speaking during the exercise, the ODM secretary-general Edwin Sifuna urged Nairobians to register as party members ahead of the 2027 polls.

"Let us come out and register as members because this is the biggest political party in the country, we want everybody to be part of ODM,'' Sifuna said.

The Nairobi Senator said the Kibra constituency has the highest number of registered ODM  members in Nairobi.

"Baba's bedroom is leading in Nairobi and this is very impressive,'' Sifuna said.

In January Raila launched the countrywide ODM recruitment exercise in Vihiga county before moving to Nyanza and Coast regions.

Raila's party has planned to hold grassroots elections in March, an exercise that was due in December last year but was postponed.

At the moment, ODM currently has 8.2 million members and is targeting to hit 15 million by 2025.

According to Raila, the registration exercise will culminate in grassroots elections in March and subsequently the national elections.

“I want to convey greetings to all our members across the country, we are approaching the end of the year and we have decided that this time we are going to launch the recruitment of new members,” he said.
