The High Court will this morning pronounce its judgement on former TV news anchor Jackie Maribe and her ex-fiancé Jowie Irungu over the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.

The judgment had been scheduled for March 15 but was revised to today following consent by the parties.

Trial Judge Grace Nzioka is to begin rendering the over 500-page decision from 9 am.

Jowie is the first accused person in the murder trial of Monica. He was charged alongside Jacque Maribe in 2018.

Monica’s body was found at her Lamuria Gardens Apartment which is located on Kitale Lane off Denis Pritt Road in Kilimani.

The prosecution called 35 witnesses who testified against the two. Although they have denied knowing Monica or being involved in her death, Assistant DPP Gikui Gichuki has said the evidence they presented in court is sufficient to have them convicted.

Directions into the Kevin Kangethe case.

A Milimani court is expected to give further directions into the Kevin Kangethe case.

Kangethe who is now at large had been detained at the Muthaiga police station pending a ruling on whether he should be extradited to face a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of Margaret Mbitu on October 31, 2023.

Massachusetts State Police said in early November 2023 that Kangethe had left her body in a car at Logan International Airport and boarded a flight to Kenya.

Massachusetts officials said they were working with Kenyan authorities to locate him, and he was arrested in a nightclub on January 30 after being on the run for three months.

Kangethe had renounced his U.S. citizenship, which prompted the extradition process.

The court had approved a police application for him to be detained for 30 days while the extradition issue was heard.

Officials said had he been an American citizen, he would have been repatriated without a court process.

On February 2, prosecutor Vincent Monda asked the court to endorse the U.S. warrant for Kangethe's arrest and issue directions for the extradition proceedings.

The suspect’s lawyer sought directions on surrendering Kangethe to the U.S. and opposed his continuing detention as disregarding his rights.

Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina is to give further directions on the matter and issue orders related to a bond/bail application today.
