The Kenya National Highways Authority has closed a section of the road between Garissa and Madogo over extreme flooding.

According to the authority, it will continue to monitor the situation and give further updates.

KeNHA said that users will be allowed to use the road once damaged sections due to the water are repaired.

"KeNHA wishes to inform the public that the road section between Garissa and Madogo is closed to all road users until the water levels subside to safe levels and restoration works on damaged sections completed. KeNHA shall continue to monitor the situation," the statement said.

KeNHA said the closure was as a result of flooding at the Tana River bridge, Mororo and Kona Punda areas.

It said their engineers had assessed the road and determined that it was not safe for use.

"The flood waters have overtopped sections of the A3 road at Mororo and Kona Punda area. Based on assessment by our Engineers, the road section at the moment is not safe for use by motorists and pedestrians."

The Authority has been giving updates on the flood situation across the country, advising road users to be cautious when in affected areas.

"Motorists are urged to exercise vigilance, adhere to safety guidelines, and cooperate with authorities to mitigate the impact of the ongoing flooding," the Authority stated.

"KeNHA remains committed to safeguarding the well-being of all road users and will continue to monitor the situation closely and advise accordingly."
