A Nairobi court has ordered businessman Josiah Kariuki to appear in court on May 6 ta take plea taking in a Sh209 million fertiliser case.

Milimani Anti-corruption magistrate Celesa Okore on Thursday said failure for Kariuki to appear in court will result in issuance of a warrant of arrest.

Through his lawyers, Kariuki told court that he was not aware of his required appearance in court on Thursday.

He, however, said he was arranging his travel to Nairobi as the country is experiencing floods.

While praying for court to issue a warrant of arrest, Director of Public Prosecution claimed that Kariuki was not someone to be trusted as he was called by the investigating officer on Tuesday but switched off his phone.

The DPP said the investigating officer had called to notify Kariuki of his required appearance in court on Thursday as he was out on an anticipatory cash bail of Sh100,000.

Kariuki is required in court to plead to the charges on his behalf and two companies he owns.
