The Association of Media Women in Kenya has announced the appointment of  Queenter Mbori as its Executive Director.

The appointment took effect on May 1, 2024.

A statement by the AMWIK board, signed by Chairperson Jane Thuo, said the appointment follows a rigorous and competitive hiring process.

"She is an award-winning multimedia journalist, mentor, and certified media trainer," the board said.

"Her expertise spans sustainable journalism, gender-sensitive storytelling, and amplifying the voices of marginalized groups."

Amwik said Queenter brings a wealth of experience and passion to the association having served across Kenya, Tanzania, and Africa.

With 12 years of media experience, Queenter has worked at The Standard Group PLC, Mwananchi CommunicationsLTD, and Bang! Magazine.

“She has demonstrably championed gender equality throughout her career, establishing a Gender Desk, revamping anti-sexual harassment policies, and launching innovative mentorship programs,” Thuo said.

Queenter has also worked on various committees and boards, including the Kigali Declaration Advisory Committee and the African Women in Media/Luminate Women in Politics Project.

"Her leadership as the Board Chair of the Standard Group Women Network and her involvement in the Kenya Editors' Guild Strategy Committee makes her solid dedication to advancing women's representation in media leadership roles," the board said.

Queenter is an alumnus of Moi University, a participant in the WAN-IFRA WIN Leadership Accelerator Programme, and a founding member of the Woman Kenya Network (WOKN).
