President William Ruto has promised to buy school uniforms for all learners at the newly opened Lenana School Primary.

Speaking on Monday, when he presided over the official opening of the school, Ruto said the same will be extended to all newly admitted learners.

The President noted that most learners had come from various schools with different uniforms.

He said they should also be allowed to continue with learning as the school makes arrangements to have the uniforms delivered.

Ruto said learners are like his grandchildren, which is why he will buy them the uniforms.

"Kila mtoto ambaye atakuja hapa mara ya kwanza nitawanunulia uniform mpaka viatu. Hawa watoto wamekuja hapa wako na uniform za shule zingine, yule amekuja na nguo ya nyumbani. Lakini hata kabla uniform haijafika hawa watoto waingie darasani waendelee kusoma," Ruto said.

This loosely translates to, "For every child who comes here for the first time, I will buy them uniforms and shoes. These children have come here with uniforms from other schools, and the other ones have come with home clothes. But even before the uniforms arrive, these children should continue learning."

At the school, the President also rang a bell, to signify the official opening of school for the second terms.

Last week, Ruto announced that schools across the country would re-open on Monday, May 13, 2024, after postponement because of the heavy rains the country experienced. The rains had resulted in floods.

The Head of State was accompanied by Cabinet Secretaries Kithure Kindiki (Interior) and Ezekiel Machogu (Education), also present were several Principal Secretaries, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, area MP John Kiarie among other leaders.
