Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has insisted that for effective digitisation of citizen services, there must be a deliberate collaboration between his ministry and that of the Information, Communications and the Digital Economy.

Speaking after a meeting with his ICT counterpart Eliud Owalo on Tuesday morning, Kindiki said his ministry appreciates the crucial support from ICT and the Digital Economy towards the realisation of the protection of citizen data.

He added that the support has also been key in ensuring the integrity of the E-Citizen services portal, the generation of the proposed digital ID and other Information Technology (IT) dependent programs.

"Digitalisation and Digitisation of citizen services such as the National Population Register, the system for registration of births and deaths, registration of persons and mitigating cyber-based threats to the security of our homeland requires deliberate and constant collaboration between the two Ministries," Kindiki said.

The meeting between the Cabinet Secretaries is part of a routine review meeting on the ongoing and planned collaborative and concurrent functions involving their dockets.

Present at the meeting were Principal Secretaries Amb Julius Bitok (Immigration and Citizen Services) and Eng. John Tanui (ICT and the Digital Economy).

In April, President William Ruto said his administration is 80 per cent done onboarding government services on digital platforms.

Ruto said that he was happy with the progress his administration has made so far.

He made the remarks during the opening of the Connected Africa Summit 2024, at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.

The President said his government made a deliberate decision that technology will form the core of Kenya's transformation and that it is coming to pass.

"As a country we made a very conscious decision that technology is going to inform the way we transform our country. We set out in the last one and a half years to put all government services on digital platform," Ruto said.

"I am very happy that we are 80 per cent on the way to making sure that every all government services is on the digital platform," the President added.

In December last year, the Secretary to the Cabinet, Mercy Wanjau said that over 16,000 state services were available on the eCitizen platform.
