Policeman shoots himself dead in house in Migori

A police officer died after he shot himself in the chest in a suspected suicide mission in Suna West subcounty, Migori County.

Police said they are investigating the Sunday morning incident where constable Gibson Omari, 31, shot himself in the presence of his wife and children.

Nyatike subcounty police commander Dorothy Migarusha said the deceased was rushed to Life Care hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

Before shooting himself dead he had been on night patrols in the area with another offset before he shot himself.

Migarusha said the deceased’s wife told police that Omari arrived in the house and before engaging her, he shot himself.

The motive is yet to be known, police said.

The body of the deceased was moved to Migori Level 4 Hospital mortuary pending autopsy and police investigations.

This is the latest such incident to happen in the service.
