Five cops and four teachers injured in Mandera accident

Five police officers and four teachers were injured on Thursday in an accident along Banisa-Guba road in Mandera.

This is after the Toyota Landcruiser the group was riding in had tyre bursts, police said of the 4 pm incident.

The driver of the police vehicle hit a pothole in the Armano area affecting two tyres.

The driver said the impact forced the vehicle off the road before it landed in a ditch.

The victims included five police officers from Choroqo Border Patrol Unit camp and teachers from Choroqo Primary School, Qotqot Primary and Guba Primary School.

The group of teachers had hiked a lift on the police vehicle when the incident happened, police said.

They sustained multiple injuries in the accident.

The injured group was rushed to Banisa Subcounty Hospital for medical attention in stable condition, police said.

Along Elwak-Mandera Road, three people were injured in a collision between two motorcyclists who were moving in the opposite direction.

Witnesses told police one of the motorcycles which was moving from Wargadud to Elwak general direction had a rider and two pillion passengers who were all seriously injured.

The other motorcyclist escaped the scene after the accident, police said adding efforts to trace him were underway on Friday.

In Tarbaj, Wajir, four people were injured in an accident involving a government vehicle.

The Landcruiser was racing along Tarbaj-Wajir road when it hit a pothole forcing the driver to lose control.

Police said the car landed in a ditch leaving the driver and three occupants with serious injuries.

The victims were rushed to hospital in serious condition.

Police said they are investigating all the accidents. Local after heavy rains were experienced there, many roads are in bad shape hence the accidents.
