One dead, minor injured in Machakos road accident

A man has died in a traffic accident in Mlolongo, Machakos.

Athi River East subcounty police commander Anderson Mbae said the unknown person died on the spot after he was knocked down by a water boozer along Gossip–Mlolongo phase three road within the Mlolongo division on Thursday.

The matter was reported to the Mlolongo police station as a fatal injury road traffic accident incident.  

“The accident incident occurred near Mlolongo chief’s office at about 9.00 pm on Thursday and was reported to Mlolongo police station at 9.30 pm the same day,” Mbae told the Star on Friday.

Mbae said the motor vehicle’s driver reportedly lost control leading to the accident.

“It happened that an unknown driver was driving a water boozer from Gossip direction towards Mlolongo phase three general direction. On reaching the location of the accident, he lost control of the said vehicle and swerved to the left knocking down the pedestrian on the spot,” Mbae said.

He said the same vehicle further knocked down another pedestrian, Simon Kalunde, 14, who sustained a chest injury before it landed in a ditch by the roadside.

Traffic officers from Athi River police station responded to the incident and processed the scene before they moved the body to Shalom community hospital mortuary awaiting identification and autopsy.

The injured minor was rushed to hospital for medication, while the said vehicle was towed to Athi River police station pending inspection among other necessary actions.

Mbae said they had launched investigations into the incident.
