Nairobi County is set to redevelop Lang'ata cemetery into a serene memorial ground.

The redevelopment project will involve comprehensive landscaping and extensive renovations.

The County will, however, identify and secure alternative land for future burials.

According to a Nairobi County Cabinet despatch released on Tuesday, the renovations include fencing, change of signage, grading and gravelling of roads inside the cemetery.

The aim is to transform the cemetery into a tranquil place of remembrance and peace.

"This initiative is in tandem with a cabinet resolution to partner with the Kenya ForestService (KFS) in the expansion of Langata Cemetery, as the current cemetery is full," the dispatch read.

The beautification of the cemetery is set to take place after the county secures an additional allocation of 56 acres of land.

"By aligning with this broader vision of green spaces, the County Government aims to enhance the urban environment and provide residents with more recreational areas," the dispatch read.

The cabinet resolved to ensure the needs of the community are met with respect and sustainability, maintaining dignity in the management of burial sites.

"Through these efforts, the County Government underscores its dedication to thoughtful urban planning and the respectful handling of public spaces," the dispatch read in a part.

The County Executive Committee meeting was chaired by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

The meeting made resolutions to enhance service delivery and improve the quality of life for Nairobi residents.
