Kenyans on Friday marked the International Yoga Day with a vibrant celebration of holistic well-being in an elaborate event held in Kitusuru, Nairobi.

The event, hosted by Energy and Sound (EN-SO) studio was to mark the 10th anniversary of the International Yoga Day.

“The celebration showcased the true essence of yoga. It reminded us all that the path to well-being is a collective journey, one that we take together, with each breath, each pose, and each moment of stillness," EN-SO lead facilitator Dr Alia Datoo said.

The event was set against the tranquil backdrop of Chez Mahmadi in Kitisuru allowing the unfolding of a unique journey through the realms of yoga, breathwork, meditation, and sound immersion into a meticulous design that deepens the practice and cultivates a profound sense of peace and unity.

The participants immersed themselves in a transformative blend of traditional yoga, expertly guided and facilitated by Datoo.

“The soothing sounds of gongs, chimes, drums, and crystal singing bowls, created a serene backdrop for deep relaxation and rejuvenation," one participant said.

"The combination of multiple modalities brought a unique dimension to the practice, making the event a memorable journey towards inner peace and harmony.”

The theme of this year's celebration was 'Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (Yoga for the World as One Family).

The first International Yoga Day was celebrated successfully on June 21, 2015, across the world including New York, Paris, Beijing, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul and New Delhi.

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India.

"The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolising the union of body and consciousness.

Alia said through meditation, practises to cultivate mental clarity, emotional stability and self-awareness are conducted.
