Young people on Sunday staged a protest outside a school in Nyahururu, where Ruto had attended service.

President Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Kenya Kwanza MPs attended the consecration of ACK's Bishop Samson Mburu.

Chanting "Bado Mapambano", the youths were opposing the Finance Bill 2024.

They were carrying Kenyan flags and placards.

At some point, as anti-riot police got to the scene, the Gen Zs sang the first stanza of Kenya's National Anthem.

Earlier on, Ruto said that he is proud the young people have stepped forward tribeless and peacefully to be counted.

He said what they have done is their democratic duty and his administration will engage them on their concerns.

The President insisted that together with young people, his government will work with them to build a better country.

"Our young people have stepped forward to engage in the affairs of their country. They have done a democratic duty to stand and be recognized and I want to tell you that we are going to have a conversation with you so that we can identify your issues and we can work together as a nation and streamline your issues," he said.

"I am very proud of our young people. They have stepped forward tribeless, they have stepped forward peacefully and I want to tell them we are going to engage so that together we can build a better nation. What I want to encourage them is that we are concerned about their issues."
