Heavily armed security teams have now been deployed at strategic areas in Eldoret town which were used as meeting points for the anti-Finance Bill protests.

More than eight land rovers full of anti-riot police have been stationed at Zion Mall which was the main meeting point for the youth.

Other security teams have even deployed near Paul’s Bakery along the Bungoma road and others along the roads leading to Kisumu and Iten.

Sources indicated that more GSU officers would also be deployed in town.

“We have been asked to patrol and help keep peace,” said one of the commanders who declined to be named.

There were fears of the possible gathering of the youth for peace protest but by around midday the town remained calm

This came as UDA supporters erected afresh some of the party wheelbarrow symbols which had been destroyed during Finance Bill protests

This comes as calm returned to the town where businesses are now going on as usual with very minimal deployment of security officers.

All businesses have opened up and repairs are going on in areas where destruction was witnessed during the protests.

The Wheelbarrow party symbols had been located in strategic areas in the town centre but were destroyed during the protests.

One of the wheelbarrow symbols has now been erected afresh on a high mast at the Kisumu road junction in the town.

This comes a day after President William Ruto’s supporters carried out peace demos in the town.

“The president responded well to the issues raised and as residents of Eldoret we stand with him,"  said an elder Benjamin Leting.

Church leaders in the region led by ACK Bishop of Eldoret Christopher Ruto also met and called for calm as the president works out to restore normalcy in the country.

“ We now must refocus our energy to strengthen peace and deal with the socio-economic issues raised by our youth," said Bishop Ruto.
