President William Ruto has saved Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary and CS for Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi.

Speaking when he addressed the nation on Thursday, Ruto dismissed every other Cabinet Secretary and the Attorney General.

"I have decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General of the Cabinet of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Affairs and of course, the Office of the Deputy President is not affected in any way," he said.

Ruto stated that he will engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations and other Kenyans at large.

The Head of State said this is to set up a broad base government that will assist him in accelerating the necessary, urgent and irreversible implementation of the programme that the state has.

This includes dealing with the burden of debt, raising domestic resources, expanding job opportunities, eliminating wastage and unnecessary duplication of a multiplicity of government agencies and ending of corruption.

This, Ruto said, will consequently make the government lean, inexpensive, effective and efficient

"During this process, the operations of government will continue uninterrupted under the guidance of Principal Secretaries and other relevant officials," he added.

The latest cabinet changes are the second since he took office in September 2022.

In October 2023, barely a year ago, the President reshuffled the cabinet, making Mudavadi a CS.

The other CSs, now sacked, were then reshuffled, with some getting new ministries and mandates.

Then, Ruto handed Mudavadi the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, moving Alfred Mutua from the ministry to the Tourism and Wildlife docket.

Moses Kuria was moved from the Ministry of Trade and Industry to the Ministry of Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management.

Alice Wahome was moved from the Water, Sanitation and Irrigation to the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Urban Development.

She swapped with Zachary Njeru.

Aisha Jumwa was moved from the Public Service, Gender and Affirmative Action docket to the Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage.

Rebecca Miano was transferred from the Ministry of East African Community to the docket of Trade and Industry.

She swapped with Peninah Malonza.
