Police on Friday hunted down three members of an alleged notorious gang in Ogembo market in Kisii County.

Police said the three suspects have been sowing fear to the public at Ogembo market.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said they received crucial information about alleged three criminals on a motorbike red in colour planning to rob an M-Pesa shop in the area.

According to them, the officers strategically positioned themselves in anticipation of the unsuspecting criminals.

Upon noticing the officers, the suspects started shooting at the officers and fled in different directions.

"Undeterred, the officers retaliated, bravely fatally injuring one of the robbers. A nearby river inadvertently aided the fugitives’ escape as the other two criminals plunged into its murky depths, disappearing from the scene," DCI said.

Police searched for the injured suspect and recovered a browning pistol with a defaced serial number and one live ammunition.

The officers said efforts to track down the two suspects are ongoing.

Police said the two suspects escaped with gunshot wounds assuring Kenyans that it is just a matter of time before they are tracked down.
