Kenya committed to improving investment climate, PS assures

Kenya is keen on enhancing her potential and attractiveness as an innovation and investment powerhouse in East and Central Africa.

Investment Promotion PS Abubakar Hassan has assured investors of the government’s commitment to providing the necessary support and infrastructure to ensure the success of such ventures.

“We are continuously working to improve our investment climate, streamline regulatory processes, and provide incentives through our economic zones to attract and retain investors,” Hassan said.

He was speaking during the launch of a partnership between Chery International and Afrigreen Automobile Limited on Saturday.

Founded in 1997, Chery International is currently the fifth largest automobile manufacturer group in China.

Afrigreen Automobile Limited and Chery International plan to set up Electric Vehicle (EV) assembly lines, establish charging stations across major highways and develop service centres and showrooms throughout Kenya.

The partnership between Afrigreen Automobile Limited and Chery International is expected to drive Kenya towards a greener, more sustainable future.

Addressing guests at the launch, Hassan proudly noted that Kenya’s electricity generation is 93 per cent from renewable sources.

He said this is testament to Kenya's commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection.

“Today's launch is not just about introducing new electric vehicles to the market. It is a celebration of innovation, environmental stewardship and economic empowerment,” the PS affirmed.

He said Kenya is positioning herself as a leader in the green economy and sustainable practices.

The event brought together dignitaries, industry leaders and key stakeholders from Kenya and China.

Shan Xiangqian, Vice Governor of Anhui Province, led a delegation from Anhui Province, China.

The PS said the collaboration between Afrigreen Automobile Limited and Chery International not only celebrates the synergy between the two companies but also highlights Kenya’s potential as a hub for innovative and eco-friendly transportation solutions.

“Let this launch be the beginning of a prosperous journey that will benefit both your companies and the people of Kenya,” he added.

Hassan noted Chery International's extensive experience and innovation in the automotive industry is poised to make a significant impact on Kenya’s transportation sector.

“This partnership underscores the importance of combining local expertise with international experience to create products and services that meet the unique needs of our market,” the PS said.
