The new Deputy Inspector General, Administration Police Service (APS) Gilbert Masengeli has assured Kenyans of their safety, as he takes charge of the security agency.
Speaking on Monday as he took over the office, Masengeli said that this should be the case, no matter the cost.
He went on to say that the strength of security agencies in the country is working together.
He added that he will ensure these agencies work together to achieve peace as stated in the Constitution.
"Mwanachi should not only feel safe, but be safe at all costs. We have no otherwise," Masengeli said.
"Our strength is teamwork, multi-agency approach. We will work with other security agencies to ensure we excel and provide the peace that is supposed to be as per the Constitution," he said.
He further pledged to work within the limits of the law and the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
The deputy IG added that he is also ready to guide the Administration Police Service in a manner that will see citizens benefit from their services.
"I want to pledge to work within the rule of law and as per the constitution.
"I am ready to guide the officers to ensure the public gets the desired services since security is our priority and the safety of each and everyone is our responsibility," Masengeli added.
On Thursday, President William Ruto named Eliud Lagat and Masengeli as the new Deputy Inspector Generals.
Lagat was named deputy IG for the Kenya Police Service while Masengeli was named the Administration Police Service deputy IG.
Following the nomination of Douglas Kanja as the new Inspector General of Police, President Ruto also named Masengeli as the acting IG.
The DIG-APS is responsible for leading the Administration Police Service and operates under the directions and control of the IG.
Eight shortlisted candidates for the positions of Deputy Inspector General for both the Kenya Police Service and Administration Police Services Monday last week appeared before the National Police Service Commission for interviews on Monday.
