"They didn't have any documents allowing them to be in the country and were arrested," the report adds.

Police said the suspects will be arraigned at Mavoko Law Courts on Thursday.

DCI detectives attached to Mlolongo police station have launched investigations into the incident.

Some Ethiopians have been fleeing their country since the Tigray region was plunged into conflict in 2020.

Several million of them need humanitarian assistance to overcome food insecurity and climate crises and the repercussions of the conflict.

The conflict doubled wih a prolonged drought between 2020 and 2023 severely affected communities with aid agencies putting those in need of humanitarian assistance at over 20 million people.

Some of those fleeing have been using Kenya as a transit point en route to European countries where they hope to be admitted as refugees.
