Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa now says that the Opposition coalition Azimio has reached a point of divorce.

Speaking on Monday, Wamalwa said the coalition working with President William Ruto is a betrayal.

He said while this is the case, a member of the coalition (ODM) has agreed to work with the current administration, a move they disagree with.

He explained that just like a marriage, they have disagreed on principles, which makes it an irreconcilable difference and because of this it is time they parted ways.

"For us Azimio to go into bed with William Ruto is betrayal of the highest order and this is why as we sit here today, in Azimio, we have reached a point of divorce. In a marriage when grounds for divorce arise, one of those is when you have irreconcilable differences.

"When a marriage breaks down irretrievably because of infidelity the court grants that divorce. I think that's where we have reached and we have disagreed as a matter of principle because people are saying Okoa Kenya but part of Azimio is saying tuokoe Zakayo. The two are irreconcilable differences," the former Defence CS said.

He, however, noted that talks are ongoing between Azimio coalition partners to see that this has been resolved.

The talks, he said, include the Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

According to him, should they fail to resolve the matter divorce is also on the table.

On July 25, the Narc Kenya party issued notice to exit from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.

The decision was communicated in a letter addressed to the coalition secretary-general Junet Mohammed by Narc Kenya's acting secretary general Asha Bashir.

Her party’s intention to withdraw from Azimio comes as a surprise considering her assurance during a radio interview on Tuesday that her relationship with coalition boss Raila Odinga was solid.

“Kindly take note that our stay in Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition is not tenable due to the prevailing political developments,” she said.

“As NARC Kenya by way of this letter, we are giving notice to exit the Coalition as stipulated in the exit clause (s) in the Coalition Agreement. This notice is effective from the date of this letter,” she added.
