The National Transport and Safety Authority has refuted claims that there is shortage in number plates.
In a statement on X on Friday, the Authority said, on the contrary, there is 102,000 uncollected plates across NTSA offices countrywide.
"The country is not experiencing a shortage of number plates. We have 102,000 uncollected plates across NTSA offices," it said.
It stated that motor vehicle dealers and individual motor vehicle owners are currently picking up their plates from the centers they identified during the application process.
On August 13, NTSA posted a link for dealers and drivers to check the status of their number plates and driving licenses.
"Kucheki status ya Number Plate na Smart DL yako imekuwa rahisi. ingia kwenye http://ntsa.go.ke. #UncollectedPlates &DLs," it said.
The process is free.
NTSA said the among the portal features is that its public access does not require registration and it is free.
To access it, use your ID number to search uncollected smart driving licences ( DL) and use the registration number of the vehicle/motorcycle to search uncollected reflective number plates.
The portal provides information on the location/center where the smart DL or number plate should be collected from.
Additionally, the portal has a platform to escalate concerns relating to smart DL and number plate service applications and feedback to clients upon resolution of complaints/concerns is sent through the email addresses provided by the client at the point of submission via the portal.
