President William Ruto has appointed Digital Strategist Denis Itumbi as Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects in the Office of the President.

Ruto appointed Itumbi after the approval of the Public Service Commission.

"This appointment will go into fostering this administration's zeal for innovation and growth towards a robust yet novel sector in the economic sphere," Head of the Public Service Commission Felix Koskei said in a statement.

In July 2023, Itumbi was among the 50 Chief Administrative Secretaries appointed by the President.

He had been appointed to the Ministry of Information and Communication and the Digital Economy.

However, the High Court quashed the appointments, saying they were unconstitutional.

In January 2023, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua allayed fears that Itumbi was jobless.

Gachagua said that even though Itumbi had no designated office, he was a close aide to Ruto.

"Many of you wonder what is the work of Itumbi is. His office is known as come here, go there. He is a close friend of our President," he said.

"Itumbi has no office, but he is in charge of everything. He arranges everything, he is the president's handler."

Gachagua was responding to critics from Azimio who had claimed that Itumbi had been sidelined by Ruto while forming his government.
