Man charged with stealing Sh9m, released on Sh1m bond

He was released on the Sh1 million bond with an alternative of Sh500,000 cash bail.

A man has been released with a bond of Sh1 million after he was charged with stealing contrary to the law.

Jeremiah Anakoli Amoyo was charged before the Milimani Courts with stealing Sh9,113,748.25 on diverse dates between February 1, and February 5, 2024.

According to the prosecution, Amoyo allegedly stole the money at EcoBank Limited -Westlands Branch in Nairobi.

He was also charged with an alternative count of intentionally withholding electronic payments delivered erroneously to him.

The Court was told that Amoyo allegedly intentionally withheld electronic payment amounting to Sh9,113,748.25 which was delivered in error to his account number held at EcoBank.

The money ought to have been delivered to a different account number held within the same bank.

The state said the offence was allegedly committed on February 1, 2024.

Amayo was arrested on August 21, 2024, and so far, the state has listed five witnesses in the case.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi, Amayo denied the charges.

He was released on the Sh1 million bond with an alternative of Sh500,000 cash bail.
