Radio Africa Group subsidiary, The Star newspaper has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Cape Media’s TV 47.

The partnership launched on Friday seeks to bolster the quality of content, reach new audiences and lead the way into the future of journalism through innovation.

Radio Africa Group CEO Martin Khafafa said the partnership will pave the way for new and unparalleled opportunities for both media houses.

He noted that in a rapidly evolving media landscape, staying ahead requires innovation, creativity, and collaboration adding that is what the new collaboration will be all about.

“This partnership represents a convergence of strengths and a shared commitment to delivering exceptional value to our audiences. Our goal is to leverage the unique strengths of each partner to create compelling content, drive engagement, and elevate our collective impact," Khafafa said.

“For our audiences, this partnership promises a richer and more diverse media experience. Whether it's through thought-provoking articles, engaging videos, or interactive features, we are dedicated to delivering content that resonates and adds value to your lives.”

The Group CEO added that the shared vision of the two media houses has been instrumental in making the partnership a reality.

Cape Media CEO Mwenda Njoka said the media industry has faced a myriad of challenges that have contributed significantly to shrinking revenue and disappearing revenue streams.

Because of this, he said, the industry has been forced to adjust strategically to stay relevant or perish.

“The media industry must therefore adjust strategically to stay relevant and alive or perish...This reality opens the door to a new way of doing things.  Collaborative Journalism, such as the one we are witnessing today, provides endless possibilities for Media Houses and journalists alike,” Njoka said.

He noted that the partnership will lead to a more robust journalism, positive evolution of news and content production as well as better distribution ecosystems.

Njoka said the collaboration aims to produce impactful-audience-centric content and transform the challenges facing the media industry into opportunities for innovation and mutual growth.

“It has happened elsewhere in the world often with great success," Njoka said.

“In 2021, 600 journalists from various Media Houses produced the now-famous Pandora Papers exposé. The global impact the Pandora stories had was enormous, showcasing how joint media productions can positively influence society at a global scale.”

Radio Africa Head of Content Paul Ilado on his part said the Star is thrilled to embark on the partnership journey.

He said the partnership presents an opportunity for The Star and TV 47 to strengthen each other and improve the standards of journalism in the country.

“By joining forces, we'll be able to leverage our respective strengths to elevate the level of journalism and storytelling available to Kenyans across the country," he said.

"Whether you're a long-time Star reader or a regular viewer of TV 47, I'm confident that this collaboration will bring you an even richer and more informative news experience.”

Ilado added that over the last 16 years, The Star has established itself as the go-to source for the biggest and most impactful stories, both nationally and across Kenya's counties.

“We pride ourselves on our ability to uncover the stories that other outlets miss - the ones that provide real insight and understanding of the issues that affect our readers' lives," he said.

"Through this new partnership with TV 47, we have an incredible opportunity to bring that same level of depth and insight to an even wider audience.”
