At least two people were Thursday night killed in an accident involving a school bus and a trailer.

The accident occurred at the Gitaru-Kikuyu Road in Kiambu County.

Police said the accident happened after the driver of a hired school bus lost control and rammed into a stalled trailer at a known dangerous spot.

The spot is under construction and locals said it has caused multiple deadly accidents.

The driver of the bus tried to avoid hitting the lorry forcing him to veer off the road and landed into a ditch.

At the time of the accident, the vehicle was not carrying students, but passengers who had hired its services, police said.

Two people died on the spot while about ten others were injured and rushed to hospital, Kiambu police boss Michael Muchiri said.

He said they are investigating the incident.

The Kenya National Highways Authority said the stretch is scheduled for construction and traffic will be diverted to enhance the process.

The incident comes as the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) urged road users to be careful ahead of school reopening.
