Drumming up support for his election, Ruto explained to the leaders present that not only will Kenya stand to benefit under his leadership but also the continent at large.

According to him, Raila’s longevity in leadership has been sustained by an “unrelenting devotion to democratic change” as the foundation of sustainable freedom and prosperity.

He noted that it is through this that Kenya has benefited from progress both on the national governance as well as evolution of sectors attributable to reforms championed by Raila and other visionary leaders.

“Raila does not only possesses the requisite credentials, but he is also the ideal candidate to lead the African Union Commission,” he stated.

The Head of State told the leaders that Raila possesses the professional capacity and experience lead the commission.

He said he has a proven track record of transformative leadership and wide experience of accomplishment at the national and regional level.

With Kenya having stepped up efforts for institutional reforms at AUC, Ruto said Raila's role would would be of great value.

“We believe that offering a highly qualified, experienced and competent candidate to lead the AUC is perfectly consistent with our commitment to the transformation of our continent through our institutions of Pan- African unity,” he said.

"Excellencies, I present to you a visionary Pan-African, a bold and wise leader, a professional and technocrat as well as a towering statesman and veteran mobiliser for positive change,"

Raila, the President further added, embodies extensive experience and a deep understanding of both African affairs and global dynamics.

These, according to him are crucial for leading the African Union farther into the centre of global affairs and closer to the hearts of the people.
