Two suspects remanded for allegedly stealing phones from Machakos patients

Two phone theft syndicate suspects have been remanded for allegedly stealing mobile phones from patients in Machakos.

The court ordered that Peter Mutavi Mutua and Francis Musembi Mumo be remanded at Machakos GK prison pending the determination of their bail applications on Friday.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them.

They appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate James Ombura of Machakos Law Courts on Thursday.

They were both charged with theft.

According to the prosecution, both suspects on August 28, 2024, at Machakos Level 5 in Machakos subcounty jointly stole one mobile phone of Infinix make valued at Sh25,000, property of Patricia Kasyoka Samuel.

Mumo faced an alternative count of being found in possession of stolen property a mobile phone worth Sh12,000 belonging to Magdalene Mueni Mutie who is still admitted at the same hospital.

The duo were nabbed after their images were captured on the hospital’s CCTV while allegedly stealing the phones in one of the wards.
