Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi has exuded confidence in the decision of ODM leaders to join President William Ruto's cabinet.

Wandayi said that since he accepted to join the cabinet, he has never had any doubts about working with Ruto.

The CS admitted to having received backlash with the decision, saying that he owes no one an apology.

His appointment followed the move by Ruto and former prime minister Raila Odinga to form a broad-based government.

As a result, Ruto appointed four ODM members to the cabinet, a move that was received with mixed reactions.

While speaking during his homecoming ceremony in Siaya, Wandayi said that he was more than convinced from the first day that he made the right decision.

"The purpose for which any political party exists is to capture state power, consolidate it, and use it for the benefit of the people. That is what we have been pursuing all along as ODM, and that is why the decision we have taken is in sync with the singular objective of any political party," Wandayi said.

The CS said that they responded positively to the call extended to them, adding that leading the nation was something their party eyed but did not get.

"We have joined you because you have given us a chance to join you in the governance of the nation that we would have wanted to govern, but we never got a chance to do so, and we must thank you, Mr. President," Wandayi said.

"I want to assure everybody else that as we move forward, the decision we have taken as a people and as a party is a decision for which we have no regret and is a decision over which we owe no one any apology, we owe no one any apology."

The CS said that Siaya residents have decided to walk with him in his political journey.

Wandayi thanked the president for appointing him, adding that his supporters are happy with the decision.

He said that he never doubted Ruto and Raila's decision to bring the country on the path of reconciliation and national unity.

"We have made a conscious decision to join your cabinet, and we are with you fully and to the fullest possible extent. We have not joined the cabinet halfway, we have joined you fully, and we commit to working with you in the service of Kenyans.

Wandayi called on leaders to rally behind them and support the President in his development agenda.
