One person died while two others sustained injuries following an accident along the Nairobi – Mombasa highway in Machakos County.
Police said the person who wasn’t immediately identified died on the spot after a pick–up they were travelling in rammed into a trailer from behind in the Konza City area on Sunday night.
Both the vehicles are said to have been moving towards the Nairobi general direction when the incident occurred.
The wreckages were towed to a police station after traffic officers cleared the scene while victims were rushed to Machakos Level 5 hospital.
The deceased’s body was removed to the same hospital’s mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Police have launched investigations into the incident.
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti sent condolences to the families of the deceased person as she wished the injured victims a quick recovery.
“I have learnt with sadness of the tragic accident that has happened on Mombasa road along the Konza stretch. Our emergency crew received a distress call from members of the public. Our Muumandu ambulance crew responded within the shortest time and provided the requisite services to the injured before rushing them to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for specialized medical care,” Ndeti posted on her social media shortly after the incident.
“My sincere condolences to the family who have lost their dear one. I also wish those who are injured a speedy recovery,” she added.
