Former Harambee Stars and Gor Mahia football player Collins Okoth Ougo alias Gattuso will next week Wednesday plead to murder charges at the High Court in Nairobi.

Gattuso was on Tuesday arraigned before Justice Alexander Muteti alongside his co-accused, Sylvia Aoko, but they did not take plea as the report on their mental assessment had not been filed in court.

The prosecution confirmed that the suspects had undergone medical assessment and that the reports were ready.

The court directed that the reports be filed in court before the duo pleads to murder charges on September 11.

Okoth, a renowned ex-Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars midfielder, and his co-accused are alleged to have murdered a three-year-old girl in Lucky Summer Estate in Nairobi in April.

He has since been in police custody as detectives conclude their investigations into the murder.

Last month, the court directed that the two suspects be presented in court for plea-taking on Tuesday. The court had given the orders to allow detectives more time to undertake DNA tests as part of their probe.

In court on Tuesday, investigating officer Gilbert Rotich denied claims that he had declined to release a mobile phone and money belonging to Gatuso that was confiscated during his arrest on May 10.

Rotich said he recovered a Samsung mobile phone and a wallet, which had two identification cards and NHIF card, and all were recorded in an inventory signed by the suspect.

The court directed the detective to release the phone to the suspect or his lawyers. Justice Muteti also directed Gattuso to make a formal complaint with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority if he had any complaints against the police officer.

In the meantime, Gattuso will remain at the Nairobi remand while Sylvia is held at Lang'ata Women's Prison pending their plea-taking next week.
