Hillside Endarasha Academy fire

At least 16 pupils have been confirmed dead at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni, Nyeri, following a fire tragedy last night.

The pupils are said to have been burnt beyond recognition.

President William Ruto has conveyed his condolences to the families of the 17 pupils who lost their lives in the fire tragedy.

In a statement, Ruto who is China on an official trip termed the incident as devastating as he prayed for quick recovery to the survivors.

Response teams have been sent to the scene to help the situation.

Nacada ex-CEO Okioma burial

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is expected to attend the burial service of former NACADA CEO Victor Okioma.

The service will be held at Nyabomo farm, Kiminini Constituency, Trans Nzoia County.

Okioma died two weeks ago while undergoing treatment in India.

Okioma who left Nacada in May, 2023, retired from the position after serving for a term of five years.

Safaricom-Starlink competition

The high court is expected to issue directions in a case in which Kituo Cha Sheria took Safaricom to court after they lobbied the Communications Authority to block foreign service internet providers including Starlink.

Kituo through advocate Marc Chirchir has taken issue with a letter dated July 5 from Safaricom addressed to CA.

In the letter, Safaricom is asking the government to assess the risks of granting licenses to satellite service providers and the consequent harm it may cause to Kenya.
