Police have launched a manhunt for suspects who killed three herders and stole livestock on Wednesday.
Kyuso subcounty police commander Edwin Otieno said the herders were shot with arrows.
“The incident took place inside the game reserve, where the herders were ambushed at 4 am as they slept in their Manyatta," he said.
“Their goats and sheep were driven away."
The herders' bodies were taken to a mortuary in Bangale in the neighbouring Tana River county.
Otieno said 54 livestock among them 25 goats and 29 sheep were recovered.
The animals were found in a thicket near Mandongoi area in Ngomeni ward, in Kyuso subcounty.
The police boss said the animals are being held at the Kasiluni police post, awaiting collection by the owner.
“I appeal to residents along the corridor neighboring the Mwingi National Game Reserve to remain calm as police conduct investigations,” Otieno said.
He urged people with information about the killers to share information with the police for justice to take place.
