Uganda’s military chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba has showered his father President Yoweri Museveni praises ahead of birthday 80th anniversary.

Museveni who has ruled Uganda since 1986 will be celebrating his birthday next week.

He was born September 15, 1944, in Ntungamo, a town in the Western Region of Uganda.

In a post on his X page, Muhoozi described his father as a “man of steel” who has always taught them “that we can be better than we think”.

“In my life, there has only been one Superman. My father General Yoweri Museveni," he said.

"He always was and still is my 'Ideal of Hope',” he added.

“Let me be the first to wish Mzee a happy birthday!”

Muhoozi is also the chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda, a pressure group lobbying for his presidency.

Until his appointment as the Chief of the Defence Forces, he served as the chief commander of land forces of Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

He was, however, removed from the position following tweets on X claiming to be able to capture Nairobi in less than two weeks.

Muhoozi has previously served as the commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC), the Ugandan Military's special operations unit, from 2008 to 2017, and again from December 2020 to 2021.

In January 2017, Muhoozi was appointed by his father, a Senior Presidential Adviser for Special Operations, fueling speculations he was being groomed for the presidency.

He has announced he would be running for the presidential office in elections slated for March 15, 2026.
