One dead, 12 injured in LPG tanker accident at Mai Mahiu

One person has been confirmed dead and 12 left nursing injuries after after an LPG tanker lost control at Mai Mahiu escarpment.

According to police, the tanker which was ferying gas then rammed into several cars including a 14-seater matatu that rolled into the valley.

The matatu was headed to Rongo for a funeral when the incident happened.

This comes days after three people died in an accident involving a GK vehicle and a lorry ferrying LPG gas at Fort Tenan in Kericho.

The double cabin pick-up GK vehicle collided with the lorry head-on, killing all the occupants of the GK vehicle on the spot.

Kericho County Traffic Enforcement Officer Selina Chirchir said the driver of the lorry was seriously injured and has been taken to hospital.

The dead include two males and a female who were in the GK car.

“The vehicles were heading in opposite directions and it's not clear what caused the head-on collision,” she said.
