Two people were Monday killed when a bus crashed on a motorcycle near the junction of Arwings Kodhek and Oledume Road in Nairobi.

The victims included a bodaboda rider and his pillion passenger.

About 30 other passengers in the bus were injured in the accident, police said.

Police said the accident happened at about 8 am causing a huge traffic jam on the roads and adjacent ones.

According to police, a bus racing from Kawangware to the city centre failed its brakes and rammed into the motorcycle ahead of it.

The bus later crashed onto the edge of the road fatally injuring the rider and his female passenger.

Police said the bodies were later moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

The bus was towed to Kilimani police station pending autopsy and other investigations.

Police have before raised concerns that some buses using the route are not road-worthy.

Some usually get stuck in hilly areas hence causing congestion on the roads.

A major crackdown is planned to check on the buses’ roadworthiness.

The incident worsened traffic congestion on Gitanga Road following another blockade that had been imposed near Quickmart supermarket to enhance an eviction exercise from a contentious plot.

The plot is owned by a former politician’s family.

It has been hosting among others Kikao Place.

Police said the politician’s family obtained an order to evict all tenants who were there.

The police were at the site to enforce the order hence the traffic mess along Gitanga Road and adjacent roads.
