Police launch probe into multiple fire incidents

Since Sunday, three fire incidents have been reported with two of them in schools.

As the country heals from the tragic Hillside Endarasha Academy tragedy that left over twenty pupils dead, more fire incidents have continued to be reported across the country leaving a trail of destruction

Police are currently investigating a fire incident that occurred in Kibra, Nairobi, on Tuesday night.

Police said they received a report of the fire at around 9:40 pm from Kibra Pride within the Sarangombe area.

They rushed there and together with the public and fire engine managed to put off the fire at around 10pm.

The fire started in one of the stores, spread to other rooms, and consumed property of unknown value, police said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately established and no life was lost. 

On Monday night, a school fire was reported at Materi Boys High School in Tharaka Nithi at around 7pm in one of the dormitories.

Police said the fire occurred when students were watching the news.

Chiakariga sub-county security team visited the scene and established that the fire started in the middle of the dormitory.

Properties including one double-decker metallic bed, three mattresses, two blankets, four bed sheets, two pairs of leather shoes and one metal box were burnt.

Police said the fire was put off by the assistance of the students with no injuries reported.

The students were addressed by the principal and sub-county security team and remained calm at the school with no ugly incident, police added.

Where else on Sunday at 6:52 pm, a dormitory with a capacity of 142 students, at Njoro Boys High School caught on fire.

Police rushed to the scene and established that there were no students in the dormitory.

The fire was extinguished by the Biashara Master fire engine and property of unknown value was destroyed, police said.

Two students got minor cut injuries and were treated and discharged at the school dispensary.

The county fire engine came later and was chased away by irate students.

Police are investigating the incident.
