Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli Friday morning appeared in court in a bid to purge his six-month jail sentence over the disappearance of three missing Kenyans.

The three are Jamil Longton (42), Aslam Longton (36) and activist Bob Njagi.

It is alleged that the three have since been found but Masengeli will still have to redeem himself since the court had already sentenced him.

The sentence was to take effect today, Friday.

Masengeli is being represented by a team of lawyers led by Attorney General Dorcus Oduor, Advocate Cecil Miller and Steve Ogolla.

Masengeli made a U-turn on his stance on Thursday after he told the court that he was ready to appear before the court.

Masengeli through Advocate Cecil Miller and Steve Ogolla informed the presiding judge of the High Court Chacha Mwita that their client is able to appear in court between 12 noon and 2 pm, on Friday.

The file was placed before Judge Mwita because Judge Mugambi was part of a three-judge bench handling a different case.

He was unable to attend to the same.

Masengeli's legal team pleaded with the court to allow their client to appear in court Thursday as the six-month jail sentence was supposed to take effect Friday.

"We are praying that you give directions so that we appear before Mugambi today (Thursday)," Masengeli said through Miller.

But Judge Chacha Mwita directed the file be placed before Judge Mugambi Friday for further directions as the Judge is engaged in a bench matter.

It is then that the DIG presented himself before court.
