Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki now says that County Commissioners must ensure that development projects in their areas are executed within the stipulated time.

Speaking in Gathara, Kinangop, Kindiki said that they must also make sure the citizens get value for their money.

“The County Commissioners across the Country must ensure that all development projects in their areas are completed within the stipulated time so that our people can get value for their money,” the CS said.

"The President has said that he has secured funds for this road project and our job is to ensure the contractors are on site."

Kindiki said contractors must ensure jobs that require no skills must be reserved for locals.

He added that some of these job opportunities should also go to semi-skilled locals.

“The President has directed that contractors must ensure that local works that require unskilled and semi-skilled workers are reserved for  youths residing around here,” he said.

"This hard work you are seeing here is because your leaders have been asking the President for development," Kindiki added.

He made the remarks as he commissioned the resumption of construction works on the 40.5-kilometre Engineer-Mbiginano-Gathara-Tulaga-Mbirithi-Chuma Road Project.

According to CS Chirchir, the launched project will not stall again because of pending bills.

"We have financed 24 per cent of this road we got through China Development Fund the balance of 80 per cent, there is no reason why construction should stop.

"The County Commissioner will supervise very closely," the roads CS said.

Chirchir noted that across Nyandarua County, all roads earmarked for construction will cost the government Sh15.8 billion.

The Interior CS noted that the government is accelerating the programme to complete road projects that stalled under the former Administration due to funding constraints.

He went on to say that the state is also initiating new road projects, which are crucial to the movement of people and goods thereby expediting Kenya's economic transformation.
