Tragedy as 22-year-old man drowns in river while bathing

Tragedy struck in Uasin Gishu County when a 22-year-old man drowned while bathing in a river in Kapseret.

Police said Brian Kibiwott went to the Sosiani River on Wednesday and slipped into the water.

His family realised he was missing the following day and searched for him, finding his clothes on the riverbank.

His body was later recovered with the help of members of the public and moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

In Kibiriria village, Nandi Hills, Barnaba Kiptoo Keny was found dead at his home.

Police reported that he died by hanging, with a rope tied to the truss in his bedroom.

His wife said he had attempted suicide on November 21, 2025, and had been treated at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital before being discharged.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police are investigating the theft of a lorry loaded with cooking oil in Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County.

The driver, transporting the goods from Mombasa to Eldoret, parked the vehicle in the town on Wednesday night.

The following morning, he and a colleague found the lorry and its contents missing.

In Kiaora, Juja, Kiambu County, about 500 kilograms of coffee berries valued at Sh364,606 were stolen from a collection center.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

In Piny Oyie, Migori County, police on a mission to arrest a suspect for threats and property damage lost a magazine from their G3 rifle after being attacked by a mob.

The suspect escaped during the incident.

The mob reportedly attacked the complainant’s home and damaged his crops.

The four officers sought assistance, and police are investigating the attack and searching for the missing magazine, which contained 20 rounds.

In Rongo, police recovered handcuffs from a suspect during an operation.

The suspect was reportedly armed, and authorities said efforts to recover additional weapons were ongoing as of Friday.
