Somali diaspora assured of investment opportunities at home

Somali nationals in the Diaspora have been assured of investment opportunities back at home.

Speaking at the International Somali Diaspora Conference, Vice chairman of the International Bank of Somalia (IBS Bank), Abdirizack Warsame said the diaspora has been instrumental in rebuilding their country.

He said the lot has significantly contributed to the development of the East African nation and it is now growing rapidly.

Warsame said the diaspora has made a lasting, and continues to contribute in strengthening the economy of the country.

He urged the Somali community abroad to increase this contribution and expand their roles in nation building.

The IBS bank vice chair added that their return to the country will also accelerate Somalia’s development going into the future.

"The Somali diaspora has been instrumental in both rescuing and rebuilding our nation. Their contributions to Somalia's economy are invaluable. I've come directly from Mogadishu to urge the diaspora to further expand their role in our country's reconstruction.

“Somalia has made significant progress, and I believe your return would greatly accelerate our development," Warsame said.

He further assured the Somali diaspora of the bank's full support in implementing their innovative ideas for Somalia.

He said this one way they plan to support this growth as a bank.

The historic International Somali Diaspora Conference was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, united Somalis worldwide under the theme "Harnessing the Power of Somali Diaspora for a Better and Prosperous Somalia."

The three-day event was opened by the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.

Hamza emphasised on the importance of robust business partnerships, saying that they form significant ways to achieve economic growth.

"I urge you to forge strategic alliances that benefit sectors such as education, health, insurance, and investment to enhance the country's economic capacity,” PM Hamza said.

The conference provided a vital platform for exploring critical issues such as immigration, integration, and cultural preservation faced by the Somali community worldwide.

IBS Bank was at the forefront of discussions aimed at shaping the future of Somalia and its diaspora.

The participants delved deep into Somalia's domestic landscape, assessing progress in security, economic development, and foreign policy.
