Niger's Abdourahamane Tiani names new oil minister

On July 26, 2023, a military coup took place in Niger.

President Mohamed Bazoum was ousted and detained by the military, and the National Council for the Protection of the Homeland (CNSP) was formed, led by General Abdourahmane Tiani.

General Abdourahamane Tiani, head of Niger's ruling National Council for the Defence of the Homeland, has appointed Dr. Oumarou Sahabi as the new Oil Minister, replacing Moustapha Mahamane Barke.

The announcement, made on national television on Saturday evening, did not reveal the reason for the reshuffle.

Dr. Sahabi previously headed the Nigerien Agency for the Promotion of Private Investment and Strategic Projects (ANPIPS).
