The appointment of a new Russian ambassador with extensive experience in Russia-Africa relations is expected to further strengthen ties and facilitate cooperation in key areas of common interest.

Vsevolod Tkachenko, a veteran diplomat with over 40 years of experience, has been appointed as Russia's new ambassador to Kenya and permanent representative to international organizations in Nairobi.

He replaces Dmitry Maksimychev in these roles, according to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Tkachenko, born in 1960, holds a degree from MGIMO University (Moscow State Institute of International Relations).

He previously served as Russia's Ambassador to Ethiopia and Representative to the African Union from 2014 to 2019.

Since 2020, he has headed the Department of Africa in the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Tkachenko is fluent in English and Swahili.
