A digital card going rounds on social media platforms alleging closure of schools on Monday is FAKE.

The digital card has Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu's photo and the news on the purported closure date at the bottom.

"Ministry of Education has directed all schools to close for midterm tomorrow, June 24," the digital card reads.

The Star Fact Checker has, however, debunked the post and established that it is fake.

The ministry had on May 29 issued an advisory adjusting the dates for half-term break for second term.

Education PS Belio Kipsang in a circular dated May 24 to all County Directors of Education said the half-term dates had been moved to June 26.

Initially, the learners were to break for second term half-term break from June 20 to 23.

The learners will be expected to break for mid-term from June 26  till June 28.

The ministry said all learners in boarding schools will be expected to report back on June 30, 2024.

The ministry on Monday also flagged the digital card as fake and confirmed that the date for the mid-term break remains June 26.

"The dates for mid-term break for all primary and secondary schools remain unchanged," the ministry said.
