Amos Kipruto celebrates with the national flag after winning a bronze during the men's marathon race

Amos Kipruto blazed to the men's 2022 London Marathon title on Sunday, a week after Eliud Kipchoge stole the headlines in Berlin.

The Kenyan destroyed a sensational field to break the tape in 2:04:39. Ethiopia’s Leul Gebresilase came home in second in 2:05.12 with Olympic bronze medallist, Bashir Abdi from Belgium closing the first three podium finishes.

Rounding the final curve past Buckingham Palace, Kipruto opted for the long way round, but he was already destined for victory.

Passing the 40k mark, Kipruto clocked a blistering 1:58:27 and by then it looked likely he would miss out on his personal best, as well as the course record.

He, however, wheeled with so much ease and power to command an unassailable lead, leaving Gebresilase, Abdi and Kinde jostling for breath behind him.

Only Gebresilase and Abdi managed to cling to the Kenyan in his burst of speed as the remaining pack fizzled out into oblivion.
