While in Trans Nzoia, Ruto is expected to preside over the national farmers' registration to benefit from the subsidized fertiliser.

The President will also attend the installation ceremony of Fr Henry Juma Odonya as the Kitale Catholic Bishop on Saturday.

Elected leaders from the county held a session in Kitale on Monday and Tuesday in which they agreed on their memorandum of understanding about the region's development priorities.

They also resolved to push for more appointments of the region's professionals and politicians into the Kenya Kwanza government.

The leaders particularly want the appointment of former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa and former Women Rep Janet Nangabo in the national government.

A politician who attended one of the meetings said the leaders are keen on presenting to the president a harmonised agenda during his visit on Friday and Saturday.

"The meeting came up with several proposals to be presented to the president, key among them is the establishment of a university in the county and appointment of Wamalwa and Nangabo to positions in the national government," said the source.

Wamalwa is the secretary general of Ford Kenya party which is headed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula.

The leaders also want about 1,000 acres of land to be axed from Agricultural Development Corporation in the Kwanza subcounty to accommodate a proposed public university.
